Dan had twice as many coins as Eli.
Carol had twice as many coins as Dan.

what I did is tried to replace the numbers with something easier , then symplyfying it .

for example , let's suppose Eli had 2 coins

this means Dan had 4 coins,

and Carol had 8 coins .

carol 8 : 2 Eli

then symplify it by dividing each side by two .

so carol has 4 and Eli has 1 .

That's how I got 4:1.
