Choose one aspect of the Cold War you have studied—the Truman Doctrine, the Marshall Plan, the Restructuring of Japan, the Korean War, the Hungarian Revolution, or the Berlin Wall. Decide whether or not the events related to that aspect of the Cold War could be considered part of the U.S. policy of containment.
Write a clear, well-organized essay of two paragraphs explaining how the U.S. policy of containment affected the one major aspect of the Cold War you chose. The first sentence of the first paragraph will be the thesis statement and should name the aspect of the Cold War and state whether or not the events related to it could be considered part of the U.S. policy of containment. For example: The U.S. response to the Korean War can/cannot be considered part of the U.S. policy of containment.
The first paragraph should:
Define/describe the policy of containing communism adopted by the United States after World War II.
Explain how the United States intended to enforce this policy.
Describe the reasons for the policy.
Provide some background information.
The second paragraph should:
Paraphrase the thesis statement.
Define or describe the aspect of the Cold War you chose.
Provide some background information about this aspect.
Explain why events related to this aspect of the Cold War could be considered, or not considered, part of the U.S. policy of containment.

To start the us policy of containment was made because of the fear of communism spreading. An example of containment is when Russia sent nuclear missiles to cuba which in turn created the Cuban missile crisis, the us then set up a "quarantine" around northern cuba to protect the us. Russia later took the missiles back and tensions fell. Another example is the situation in Berlin, West Berlin was communist, East Berlin was democratic, the communist vision eventually fell with the Berlin wall which promoted democracy. The us also gave billons of dollars to Europe to promote democratic growth. The quarantine is basically against communism and promoting a democratic style.
The U.S. response to the Korean War is part of the U.S. policy of containment.  After WWII, there were two super powers: the US and the USSR. US adopted the policy of containment to contain the spread of communism as USSR tried to expand its influence around the globe. The fear was that the domino effect of one country falling after another to communism would swing the balance of power towards USSR.

The Korean war was fought between the communism north and democratic south. North Korea was supported by communist China and USSR while US and the West supported South Korea. US ended up sending in troops, war planes and ships in that conflict as the North made aggressive moves towards the south at first. Without US support, the Korean peninsula would have become a communist country. Even with the support, the war ended in stalemate with the country split in two. But the expansion of communism was contained in the process.
