How did the Domino Theory influence the three presidential administrations that oversaw the conflict in Southeast Asia? -- include specific examples (5 pts.) How did this theory lead to American involvement in the conflict (3 pts.) and how did it expand the conflict into surrounding nations such as Laos and Cambodia (2 pts.)?

Respuesta :

Led each to get involved in Vietnam in varying stages to prevent a collapse of the whole region to Communism.

JFK helped to overthrow the South Vietnamese government, established a new government, and sent military advisers and equipment.
LBJ involved ground troops into the escalating crisis and began a draft to support the conflict.
Nixon continued to engage air strikes while pulling ground troops.

Attacks on Laos and Cambodia were used to destroy aid the countries were giving to North Vietnam and to prevent Communist influence over them.

The Domino Theory stated if one fell, they would all fall. This policy convince US leadership they must prevent Vietnam from falling as it would be the first "domino".
