this is more or less how you write the question.
[tex] \frac{ \frac{7}{8} } { \frac{1}{2} } [/tex]

To solve it invert the 1/2 and multiply.
[tex] \frac{7 * 2}{8 * 1} [/tex]

Which gives you 14 /8 whis is 1 3/4 cups.
