Food science is called an integrated course because it is made up of multiple disciplines. The result is an understanding of the fundamental principles within modern science. The food science curriculum is made up of biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics and statistics. Cell biology, kinetics, photosynthesis are some of the subjects studied. The integrated curriculum expands and improves upon the scope of traditional science courses. Students are encouraged to apply their knowledge and skills when considering important societal problems such as health, energy and food.
