Economic Limitations
Black codes often permitted the arrest of poor, unemployed persons, usually African American, for lack of homes or money.
Political Limitations
African Americans were unable to vote, so they weren't able to elect officials. Whites used literacy tests and poll taxes to keep them from voting.
Social Limitations
African Americans were unable to vote, own land, own weapons, and were segregated from the white people in their community through Jim Crow Laws.
