Democracy is working somewhat. There are times in which the system of checks and balances becomes a bit muddied, but overall, the three branches of government do a good job of making sure each stays in their own lanes. There are very few times in which a branch takes a step outside its proscribed powers that they are not made to reconsider their mistakes and take a different tack to governance.
