Here, subduction does not takes place as both the crust are of nearly the same amount of density. The rocks in this region are folded, faulted and shattered as a result of which the rocks are recrystallized because of the enormous temperature and pressure condition due to the smashing of the plates. The rocks in this region leads to the formation of mountains above the surface of the earth because of the compression. This continental crust enlarges in depth as the mountains are formed above it. The crust is usually the thickest beneath the long mountain chains that are formed due to the sharing of a convergent plate boundary between two continental plate.
