you divide the shape into 2 shapes, a rectangle and a square.
Area of the rectangle: (3+3)3=18
Area of the square: 3*3=9
18+9=27

divide the box in a box and rectangle then multiply and add.
3 x 3 = 9
3 x 6 = 18 ( the six came from adding 3 + 3 on the top of the rectangular part)
18 + 9 = 27in^2
