Water will travel from the area of higher concentration (within the cell) to an area of lower concentration if there is not enough water outside the cells (because you are sweating or have been drinking and are losing all your water through your urine) (outside the cell). The name of this procedure is osmosis. It takes time for the osmosis to reach an isotonic state, when the concentration of water within and outside the cells is equal.
However, a cell will die if it has too little water in it and can become extremely dehydrated.
