In Africa's agriculture ,Rapid population increase can result in ineffective farming methods that deplete and erode the soil, diminish vegetation, overuse and use agrochemicals inappropriately, and hinder the management of water resources. Such actions severely degrade the environment .

Africa's agriculture has a significant social and economic impact. Smallholder farmers make up more than 60% of the population in sub-Saharan Africa, and agriculture accounts for around 23% of the region's GDP. The continent's full agricultural potential is still unrealized. In a recent investigation, we found that Africa could produce two to three times more cereals and grains, which would increase the present global output of 2.6 billion tons of cereals and grains by 20% .Both the production of cattle and horticulture crops increased. Investment will be necessary if Africa is to realize its full agricultural potential. Sub-Saharan Africa will require eight times as much fertilizer, six times as much better seed.
