Describe about adrenal gland.
Small, triangular-shaped glands called adrenal glands, or suprarenal glands, are situated above each kidney. Your immune system, blood pressure, response to stress, and other vital processes are all regulated by the hormones that your adrenal glands manufacture.
A distinct hormone is secreted by each zone of the adrenal cortex . The adrenal cortex primarily generates these hormones:
A glucocorticoid hormone called cortisol is produced by the zona fasciculata and has a number of critical functions in the body. It helps the body manage how it uses fats, proteins, and carbohydrates; it reduces inflammation; it balances blood pressure; it raises blood sugar; and it can also slow down bone growth.
The zona glomerulosa-produced mineralocorticoid hormone is essential for controlling blood pressure and a few electrolytes (sodium and potassium). A signal from aldosterone causes the kidneys to absorb more salt into the bloodstream and release potassium into the urine.
DHEA and Androgenic Steroids-These zona reticularis hormones are ineffective male hormones. They are precursor hormones that are changed into female hormones (estrogens) in the ovaries and male hormones in the testes (androgens). The ovaries and testes, on the other hand, produce substantially higher levels of estrogens and androgens.
