Humans normally have 23 pairs of chromosomes, 22 pairs are autosomal chromosomes and a sexual pair. Having an extra chromosome or lacking one is a type of large-scale mutation, caused by errors in the meiosis. When the number of chromosomes is not correct, this causes different syndromes that can affect the health of the individual.
Some examples are:
Down syndrome (trisomy 21)
Turner syndrome (lossing
