A town collects data about its population every 10 years. In the year 2000, the population was 38,500; and in the year 2010 the population was 41,200. the population is 2010 is P2 = 41200

the percentage change in the population is,

[tex]\frac{P2-P1}{P1}\times100[/tex][tex]\frac{41200-38500}{38500}\times100[/tex][tex]\begin{gathered} =\frac{2700}{385} \\ =7\text{ \%} \end{gathered}[/tex]

as the change is positive also the population is increased in 2010

thus, the answer is 7% increase that is option 'a'
