Let's solve the following system of linear equations.

[tex]\begin{gathered} x+\frac{3}{4}y=5 \\ x-\frac{1}{2}y=0 \end{gathered}[/tex]

First we are going to multiply the equations by a factor to eliminate the fractions and make calculating them much easier.

[tex]\begin{gathered} 4x+3y=20 \\ 2x-y=0 \end{gathered}[/tex]

Now we can solve the system of equations. We can see that from equation 2 it is possible to determine y = 2x and then replace it in equation 1.

[tex]\begin{gathered} 4x+3(2x)=20 \\ 4x+6x=20 \\ 10x=20 \\ x=\frac{20}{10} \\ x=2 \end{gathered}[/tex]

We can see that the value for x is equal to 2
