James is on a pier fishing and sees the waves growing 120 meters above sea level, at the same time he's fishing with his baits 110 meters below the sea level.

2) In this story, 0 represents the sea level. Above sea level, we have the waves above that. So negative numbers represent below the sea level and positive numbers represent the height of that waves.
