Summation occurs as successive stimuli are added together to produce a stronger muscle contraction. A skeletal muscle fiber will generate a given amount of force if the stimulus is strong enough to reach the threshold for muscle contraction. This is called the law or none law.
We begin with a low amount of stimulation that does reach the threshold to produce a contraction. The muscle fiber will respond by staying relaxed and thus will not contract.
