Many ways have been offered over the years to account for the presence of evil in a beneficent universe, and many believes that these efforts  to explain the existence of evil has not been successful.

If evil is a deprivation of substance, form, and virtue, then God cannot create evil, according to the Neoplatonist conception of evil. Evil is the absence of existence and goodness, and all of God's creation is good.

The type of evil that is typically discussed in theological contexts, such as in debates of the problem of evil, is evil in the wide sense, which includes all moral and natural ills present in this universe..

The challenge of evil is how to explain evil in a universe made by an all-knowing, all-powerful, and all-good God i.e  beneficent universe . It would appear that there would be no evil in the world if the creator possessed these qualities. However, evil exists in the world. There is hence no need to assume the existence of an all-knowing, all-powerful, and all-benevolent creator.
