Both the Netherlands and England had a great naval power and relied a lot on their colonies in America and east Asia. These colonies provided them with wares such as spices which gave traders huge profits. 

The similarity here lies in the fact that both the Dutch and the English were interested in the new world due to wealth and religious reasons.

Both of these countries had similar issues of religious upheavals. Protestant churches had broken out of the catholic church.

They moved into the new world in order to colonize it. The Dutch established powerful corporations like the Dutch west indies to colonize America.

England on the other hand were also fighting against Catholicism.
