Steps to finding the line that passes through two points as given:

1) Find the slope:

     [tex]Slope = \frac{y_{2}-y_{1} }{x_{2}-x_{1}}[/tex]

  • [tex](x_{1},y_{1})=(2,-2)[/tex]
  • [tex](x_{2},y_{2})=(3,-4)[/tex]

     [tex]Slope = \frac{-4--2}{3-2} =\frac{-2}{1} =-2[/tex]

2) Use the point-slope form to form the basic equation:

    Point-slope form --> [tex](y-y_{0})=m(x-x_{0})[/tex]

  • [tex](x_{0},y_{0}) = (2,-2)[/tex]   <-- could be any point on the line
  • [tex]m = -2[/tex]

    [tex](y + 2) = -2(x-2)\\y + 2 = -2x + 4\\y = -2x + 2[/tex]

Hope that helps!
