The Reign of Terror lasted less than two years, from the execution of Louis XVI in January 1793 to late July 1794. During those eighteen months, more than 20,000 French people died by the guillotine. The question is whether this behavior by the revolutionary French government was justified. The Reign of Terror was justified. This claim can be supported by three reasons “In order to lay the foundations of democracy among us and to consolidate it, “in order to arrive at the peaceful reign of constitutional law, and to finish the war of liberty against tyranny and safely cross through the storms of revolution”. Explanation: The first reason why the Reign of Terror was justified is that it brought a democracy to the French people; A democracy that had freed the French people from a monarchy that was going to destroy the common folk by crushing them with starvation, tensions between the common folk, nobles , and the church.
