1. Look at his chest rise and fall. One rise and one fall are counted as 1 breath.
2. Listen to his breaths.
3. Place your hand on the person's chest to feel the rise and fall.
I’m a medical professional, and this is how I do it. While you’re listening to their heart with the stethoscope, count them for as long as you need to. Even if you’re done listening and everything sounds fine, keep the stethoscope on their chest and count. It’s the easiest way for them to stay still, quiet, and unaware of what you’re doing.
