A muscle cramp is a muscle problem that involves one or more muscle contraction that takes place suddenly and involuntarily. Muscle cramps are very painful and during the episode of the cramp, the affected muscle cannot be used

The causes of muscle cramps include;

  • Excessive use or strain of the affected muscle
  • Too much caffeine
  • During pregnancy
  • The use of certain medicines
  • Dehydration of the muscles
  • Pinched nerve or spinal chord injury nerve compressions
  • Inability of blood to easily access the muscles
  • Calcium, potassium, or magnesium electrolyte levels being low

Tetany is a condition that brings about laryngospasm or spasm of the voice

box, carpopedal spasm, which are spasms involving the wrists, fingers or

feet, and toes, and muscle cramps that causes severe pain. Tetany is

generally caused by hypocalcemia which refers to low blood calcium

levels,  the cause of the low calcium levels may be due to

hypoparathyroidism. Tetany is treated by identifying the cause of the

tetany with short term treatment goals being to correct the imbalance by

the introduction of calcium and magnesium supplements

Muscle Fatigue is associated with a symptom of decreased ability of the

muscle to perform (tasks) when needed, usually linked to exhaustion after

undergoing exercises that are strenuous. Fatigue is being experienced

when there is an overall reduction of force behind the movement of the

muscle such that a sense weakness is felt and some task that were easily

done before the fatigue are limited
