Things have definitely improved for the LGBT society since the 1960s. As stated in the article above, there were laws enacted against cross-dressing in public. Now, we have public bars and events where people are openly cross-dressing or open about being transgender. There are even social media influencers who use their stories of being transgender as propaganda for their cause.
