in US history? Manifest Destiny was a belief back in the 1800s that the United States territory would expand from coast to coast (basically the ocean on both sides). This encouraged people to expand and move towards the west to fulfill that destiny (it worked obviously). While this resulted in lots of progress in the country, it also did massive damage to the Native Americans who were pretty much forced out of their land (ex. Oklahoma land run)
