The meaning behind it is that many times a person can face adversity and develop traits and talents that they would have never developed without those adversities. Although many people may think that adversity holds people back, I think that it enhances learning, exposes weakness, and helps us better understand ourselves. Without adversity it would be very difficult for people to advance and adapt in life.

With adversity comes learning. If life was always the same and your day to day process was a routine, then you would not learn very much. A person who lives like that would become very good at the things they do over and over again but then as soon that life style changes, they would have no idea what to do. That is why it is important to have adversity in life because it helps to learn when new situations occur.
