So my teacher wants us to draw a can and have something inside of it. do you guys have any suggestions of what to draw?

a single flower inside a pot, it's cheesy but it'd be so cute if you do the shading right, do some nice shadow to make it appear lonely

I think you should try drawing a small can with an even smaller animal family with really good shading and making the background a nature scene type.
