The correct statement is that Franklin D. Roosevelt and his policies were hugely criticized but were helpful in restructuring the stability of America after the downfall during the Great Depression.

Roosevelt had suggested the following of socialism during the Great Depression and which would be strongly subject to agreement of many people when analyzed back.

Roosevelt New Deal

Roosevelt had implemented the New Deal after the Great Depression stuck the country after a crash of nearly 80% in the stock market of the USA.

There was a huge criticism of this New Deal by men like Huey P. Long, who had proposed that the New Deal will end the purpose of America being a capitalist economy.

However, it was realized later that adopting the socialist governance was the need of the hour during the Great Depression of the Twentieth Century.

Hence, the policies recommended by Roosevelt in New Deal were criticized but proved to be beneficial for the rise of economic conditions of America.
