But when they arrived in America, they found that there were millions who were in the same situation, with which the labor competition was enormous. This made thousands and thousands of people willing to work, with which employers made use of this vulnerable situation, offering poorly paid jobs with long working hours.
Thus, the majority of immigrants, although their situation improved with respect to their countries of origin, continued to remain in the lowest sectors of society, although with a better quality of life and a more promising future for their families.
