By Act III, Juliet has changed a lot from the beginning of the play. At the beginning of Act III is when things start to turn negative for Romeo due to his fight with Tybalt and he is banished from Verona. Whereas the first two acts of the play were lighter in tone and joyful, in Act III the story turns darker and more tragic for both Romeo and Juliet. It is Mercutio’s death that creates insurmountable problems for Romeo and Juliet who had carefully planned how they would be together despite the feud between their families. The death of Tybalt leaves little likelihood of any future peace between the Montagues and Capulets.
