Primary sources are the prepared by a researcher during her own research. Photographs, videos, newspaper reports of that time etc are examples of primary sources. Secondary sources were already used by some earlier researchers.  

Their use in previous researches increases its reliability. But secondary sources have some disadvantages as well. They can become outdated and irrelevant. Just because it was useful for a researcher who previously used it doesn’t mean it would be useful for a new researcher with a different sample.  

Thus they usually offer limited perspectives.
