According to the New York Times, during the mortgage crisis real estate brokers had an incentive to steer borrowers to higher-cost loans. Nonetheless, "the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals [NHREP] released a ‘code of trust’ for its members that calls on brokers and agents to look out for their clients’ interests and not steer them into higher-cost loans when they qualify for more conventional financing.
