The ozone has the ability to absorb the ultraviolet rays from the Sun. That characteristic of it is crucial for the survival for almost all living organisms on Earth because if the ultraviolet radiation comes free to the surface with its full effect it will fry to death pretty much everything living on the planet. Unfortunately, the ozone layer is getting damaged because of the human activity and releasing certain chemicals in the atmosphere, so there are ozone holes now. If the trend continues, the ozone layer will become so damaged that it will not be able to stop most of the ultraviolet radiation, with the end result being mass scale dying out of most of the living organisms on the planet.
