Some scientists hypothesize that Earth's ozone layer is being damaged by halogenated ozone depleting substances (ODS) such as chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). CFCs have been known to damage the ozone layer for quite some time now which is why many products containing CFCs have been banned or discontinued (styrofoams, refrigerants, aerosols, etc)
