Slavery changed the rate of development in the Western World in so many ways. Slavery was a terrible thing and was inhumane and wrong. But you cannot deny that slavery had a huge impact on our history and economy today.
With the mass labor that slavery provided, we were able to maintain large plantations. These large plantations allowed us to mass harvest and mass produce many crops. These crops included cotton, sugar, and tobacco.
Also, slavery allowed for factories to mass produce goods. Such goods included clothing and shoes. What used to take months for the female head of household to make, mend, sew, and embroider for every person on the plantation, was no accomplished with tens and even hundreds of slaves, depending on the plantation size.
Also, the use of slaves allowed people to become wealthier because they did not have to pay slaves. All they needed to do was keep the slaves minimally fed and in working condition. This was much cheaper than paying a free person their due wages.
I don’t have time to write 5 paragraphs but I can tell you some facts slavery made development faster because more people were working for less money however it also took people from their homes and forced them to do labour
