A farmer planted 2/5 of his forty acres in corn and another 3/10 of his land in wheat. Taken together, what fraction of the 40 acres had been planted in corn or wheat?

rewrite the fractions so the have the same denominator ( bottom number)

Multiply 2/5 by 2 to get 4/10

Now you can add 4/10 and 3/10 to make 7/10.


7/10 of the land is corn or wheat.
