Protecting public health is an important duty of state government because the government wants to make sure that everyone is healthy. This is why the government contributes to cancer research.
Because I and other people don't want to get sick and we need medicine if we do get sick and the government has to spend money on doctors and clinics and hospitals to have that stuff.
