A compound formed between calcium, titanium, and oxygen crystallizes in the perovskite structure shown below. ca2+ cations (white circles) reside on the corners of the unit cell, the ti4+ cation (black circle) resides in the body center of the cubic cell, and o2- anions (gray circles) reside on each of the cell faces. what is the formula of the compound? write the elements in the order ca, ti, o.

Respuesta :

Hey there!:

CaTiO3

*The corners are shared by 8 adjacent neighbors so only contribute 1/8 each, thus 1 Ca in the unit cell  .

*The center is totally encased in the unit cell, thus 1 Tiin the unit cell

.

The faces are shared by 2 adjacent neighbors so onlycontribute 1/2 each

6 * 1/2, thus 3 O in the unit cell.

Hope that helps!
