A students rectangular desk is 30 inchrd long and 18 inches wide. The teachers desk is similar to the students desk anf has a length of 50 inches. What is the width of the teachers desk

Since the desks are similar then the ratios of corresponding sides are equal

let the width of teacher's desk be w, then

[tex]\frac{30}{50}[/tex] = [tex]\frac{18}{w}[/tex] ( cross- multiply )

30w = 900 ( divide both sides by 30 )

w = 30
