Hagia Sophia or holy wisdom was build in the sixt century AD as a chatedral in Costantinople, now Istambul. Constantinople was the capital of East Roman Empire or Byzantine Empire, which was a mixture of Roman law and Greek religion and philosophy. Its architecture is also a mix of Roman and Ortodox Christian elements and it is a great example of unique Byzantine style. The dome is predominantly Roman where the interior, the shape of the chatedral and the windows are more typical for Ortodox churches.
