Chef jess made a cake with an area of 93 1/2 inches. If the width of the cake was 8 1/2 inches, what was the length of the cake?

Really Confused

Respuesta :

we know that

if the cake has a  rectangular shape, the area is equal to

A=L*W

where

L is the length side o the cake

W is the width of the cake

in this problem

we have

[tex]A=93 \frac{1}{2}\ inches^{2}= \frac{187}{2} \ inches^{2}[/tex]

[tex]W= 8 \frac{1}{2} \ inches = \frac{17}{2} \ inches[/tex]

L=?

A=L*W

solve for L

L=A/W

[tex]L=(187/2)/(17/2)=(187/17)=11 \ inches[/tex]

therefore

the answer is

the length is equal to 11 inches
