Very large and very small numbers are easier to write in scientific notation. for example, the number, 69200 would be written 6.92 multiply 104 in scientific notation. how would you enter this number in webassign using scientific notation to 3 significant figures? (webassign uses e-notation for entering scientific numbers, for example, 1.23e-4.)

Apparently the exponent of 10 follows the letter e:

6.92e4

The number of significant digits is the the number of digits to the left of the "e".

FYI, this notation is also accepted by many spreadsheet programs. In fact, a combination of numbers with the letter "e" may be interpreted this way whether yoiu want it to be or not.
