A caucuses is a gathering of people that happens to select candidates and policies being mostly informal, with no need for ballots, for example. On the other hand, a primary election is less informal than caucuses, and it has a lot of different types such as: closed primary, semi-closed, open primary, semi-open, and the blanket primary in which the ballots is not restricted to candidates from one party.
