An inclination toward literal truth or a visually accurate representation is called Realism.
Bruce Barnbaum in his book “The Art of Photography, 2nd Edition: A Personal Approach to Artistic Expression” had defined realism in these words.
Realism is an art movement which began in the eighteenth century France. The artists of this movement rejected the tread of Romanticism which dominated the society at that time. Realists wanted to portray real life situations and problems through art which Romanticism had been neglecting.
