The endocrine system comprises of glands that produce hormones that regulate biological processes in the body. Body organs have receptors on their cell and tissue surfaces that bind to these hormones. The binding results to invocation of biochemical pathways inside of the cells. There are usually antagonistic hormones that work in a feedback loop to regulate body functions and maintain homeostasis.
