The area formula for both a square and a rectangle is A = L*W, only in a square, the length and width are the same. It can be rewritten then as [tex]A=s^2[/tex] where s is a side. If we have the length and width of the rectangle to be 32 and 2, respectively, then the area is 32*2=64. If the square is to have the same area, 64, we will fill it into our square formula for area like this: [tex]64=s^2[/tex]. To solve for s we will take the square root of both sides to get s = 8 and s = -8. The 2 things in math that will never EVER be negative are time and distance/length so -8 is out. That means that the side lengths of the square is 8 meters.
