Set the equation equal to 0 and bring the 63 over by subtraction to factor the polynomial. [tex]x^2+2x-63=0[/tex]. The 2 numbers that add up to +2 and multiply to -63 are 9 and -7. But of course we know that the 2 things in math that will never EVER be negative are time and distance/length so -7 is out. That means that x, the length, is 7 and width, x+2, is 9. 7 and 9 are consecutive odd numbers that multiply to 63. There you go!
