In animal cells, vacuoles are less important so the main problem would be trouble storing water. In plant cells however, they have an important role. If the vacuole was damaged in a plant cell, the turgor pressure (force that allows plant stems to stand upright) would be out of whack. The plant would become very limp and could die as a result.
If a cell had a damaged central vacuole it would have difficulty in STORING WATER.
- Vacuoles are membrane-bound cell organelles filled with water molecules.
- These organelles (vacuoles) also contain inorganic substances, nutrients, and organic molecules (e.g., enzymes, pigments, etc) in solution.
The main functions of the vacuoles in eukaryotic cells include:
- sequestration and further recycling of waste products (animal vacuoles)
- maintenance of water balance (plant vacuoles).
In conclusion, if a cell had a damaged central vacuole it would have difficulty in STORING WATER.
