Light is a necessary ingredient in the
process of reproduction. This process
gives plants time to grow. Roots
absorb sunlight and carbon dioxide,
which help the plant produce
cellulose. In the fall, when leaves
receive less oxygen and water, they
often change shape. This is because
trees begin to live off their stored
cellulose and stop producing
chlorophyll, a pigment that absorbs
the light to make the glucose and
makes leaves yellow.
