Cultures are not fixed, either in time or location. Human societies are characterised by cultural
diversity which has sometimes resulted in misunderstandings between individuals and groups.
Advances in communication technology have allowed us to better appreciate the nature of cultural
diversity. Families are important in passing on specific cultural norms and values to children.
